boris yukhananov’s three-day production of blue bird uses maurice maeterlinck’s classic play young brother , sister in search of blue bird of happiness starting point, but, in experiment documentary drama, enhanced life stories of aleftina konstantinova , boris korenev, 2 of electrotheatre’s veteran stars play lead roles of 8 , ten year-old children. korenev’s tales of stardom film actor in 1960s, , konstantinova’s tales of surviving wwii combine tales history of former stanislavsky drama theatre, of recent history of soviet , russian nations whole. production features 300 handmade costumes , set design includes cross-section of real boeing jet fuselage. premiere took place in february 2015.

the constant principle

boris yukhananov s production of mystery-play titled constant principle premiered in november 2015 on main stage of electrotheatre stanislavsky. combination of 2 plays run on 2 consecutive nights. first night features performance of constant prince pedro calderón de la barca; second combines various scenes constant prince performed in contrasting contemporary styles , concludes so-called concert in cemetery, performance of alexander pushkin s feast in time of plague.

calderon s play tells tale of don fernando, portuguese prince, taken prisoner sultan of morocco after unsuccessful military expedition. in exchange freedom, prince ordered sultan destroy town of ceuta, catholic stronghold in north africa. prince fernando decides life not worth such sacrifice. prefers live , die slave in arab prison.

the golden ass project, 2015 2017

beginning in 2015, newly graduated directors studio of individual directing began staging works @ stanislavsky electrotheatre based on texts various russian , european writers. however, beginning point work on golden ass apuleius (this novel, translated russian great silver-age poet mikhail kuzmin, known in english metamorphosis of apuleius). apuleius story of would-be magician mistakenly turned ass, thereby putting protagonist through 20 years of humiliation , deprivation before achieves salvation goddess isis, embodied overall concept of project. in spring of 2016 yukhananov revealed new aspect of project, so-called open-circuited workspace, in various directors , actors staging various segments or chapters of golden ass, gave public showings of work yukhananov, in role of isis, offered commentary , advice.
