Latvia Referendums by country



the constitution of latvia proscribes referendum 5 purposes:



recalling of parliament
acceding european union
accepting substantial changes in terms regarding membership in european union
accepting legislation suspended president
amending constitution or adopting law

one tenth or registered voters has right initiate national referendum regarding recalling of parliament. voter turnout needed 2 thirds of number of voters participated in last elections parliament.


substantial changes in terms regarding membership of latvia in european union shall decided national referendum if such referendum requested @ least one-half of members of parliament.


a referendum held on law if president suspends it, , in two-month period 1 tenth of electorate requests referendum, except if parliament again adopts law 3 three-quarters super-majority. voter turnout needed 50% of number of voters participated in last elections parliament.
