according government s national research center, 40 percent of cairo s inhabitants not water more 3 hours per day , 3 large districts not receive piped water. in 2008 demonstrations concerning issue took place in suez, 500 people blocked main road cairo. according survey carried out prior 2006 in governorate of fayoum, 46% of households complained low water pressure, 30% frequent water cuts , 22% complained water not available during day time. these problems lead many people use water canals hazardous health.


it estimated each year 17,000 children die diarrhea. 1 reason drinking water quality below standards. water treatment plants not maintained , inefficient in removing parasites, viruses , other parasitic microorganisms. in 2009, study ministry of health showed drinking water half million people in asiut unfit human consumption. of june 2011, nothing had been done address problem. chlorination systems of wells, had been installed years ago because high levels of bacteria had been detected in groundwater, failed lack of maintenance , have been shut down untreated water provided residents.
