Ögedei, along brothers, campaigned independently first time in november 1211 against jin dynasty (1115–1234). sent ravage land south through hebei , north through shanxi in 1213. Ögedei s force drove jin garrison out of ordos, , rode juncture of xi xia, jin, , song domains.


during mongol conquest of eastern persia, Ögedei , chagatai massacred residents of otrar after five-month siege in 1219–20 , joined jochi outside walls of urganch. because jochi , chagatai quarreling on military strategy, Ögedei appointed genghis khan oversee siege of urganch. captured city in 1221. when rebellion broke out in southeast persia , afghanistan, Ögedei pacified ghazni.
