Obesity Health in Egypt



in 1996, egypt had highest average bmi in world @ 26.3. in 1998, 1.6% of 2- 6-year-olds, 4.9% of 6- 10-year-olds, 14.7% of 10- 14-year-olds, , 13.4% of 14- 18-year-olds obese. 45% of urban women , 20% of rural population obese.


obesity rates rose oils, fat, , sugars more regularly consumed, beginning in 1990s. cultural appreciation of heavier female bodies factor. explanation degree food center of social events , special occasions. heavy consumption of starchy , fatty foods without presence of health-conscious exercise culture major factor. parents teach lifestyle children, prevalence of childhood obesity increases. today, egyptian teenagers drink 3 times soda milk. ten percent of males , females drink 5 or more cans of soda day, can lead osteoporosis in women in future. these food habits reinforced junk food advertisements , availability of unhealthy food @ supermarkets. result, teenagers 3 times overweight 20 years ago.
