Biography Giulio Briccialdi







briccialdi born in terni, italy, in papal states on 2 march 1818 , began studying flute father. after father’s death, 14-year-old briccialdi moved rome pursue musical career , avoid family pressure join priesthood. first appointment accdemia di santa cecilia in rome @ age of 17.


while in rome studied composition and, in 1835, began teaching flute @ accademia di santa cecilia. moved naples, flute teacher royal family.


over next couple of years worked in naples , milan, , flute teacher king’s brother. in 1841 toured europe , america, settling in london following year.


in london became director of instrument making firm rudall , rose , responsible several mechanical developments still in use today. appointed professor of flute @ conservatoire in florence in 1870, , remained there until death in 1881. in 1996 asteroid n. 7714 named in memory.


briccialdi, known “the paganini of flute,” remarkable virtuoso toured europe soloist , responsible several technical improvements flute—now standard features on instrument. settled in florence , taught @ florence conservatory.
