starting strathcona streetcar barn & museum travels on former cp rail line in north west direction. first passes calgary & edmonton railway station museum @ present-day 105 street; replica of station northern anchor of calgary , edmonton railway 1891 1908. after level crossing stop @ 107 street, streetcar goes under saskatchewan drive, 109 street, , walterdale hill intersection. while turning north, middle stop in neighbourhood of garneau @ 90 avenue, before getting on high level bridge. after travelling high on surface of north saskatchewan river, continues on river valley road, , 97 avenue, entering ribbon of steel multi-use corridor. ribbon of steel corridor designated alberta infrastructure , city of edmonton preservation of streetcar rail in edmonton, , provide running/cycling path between 109 street , 110 street, 97 avenue jasper avenue. first stop on ribbon of steel grandin stop, walking access grandin lrt station, , legislature grounds. northern terminus of high level bridge streetcar ride @ jasper plaza, south of jasper avenue. streetcar system existed in edmonton until 1951 ran though downtown core, including down jasper avenue. former rail line continued north, 110 street now, old cn rail yard (north of 104 avenue).
in near future, edmonton radial railway society hopes extend line south towards whyte avenue new terminus. this, rail crossing on gateway boulevard have reconstructed; removed separate streetcar line active cp lines. during summer festivals, such fringe, service extended accommodate increase in crowds.
