willoughby hall, ancaster, 1876. house designed in 1873 watkins f. w. allix. in jacobethan style shaped gables , showing french renaissance. house completed 1875 @ estimated cost of £28,000. estate sold in 1912 , again in 1928 sale particulars show had lofty hall 4 main reception rooms elaborate carved fireplaces, smoking room, broad staircase leading first floor 8 main bedrooms , 9 bedrooms on second floor. during world war ii occupied army , used bombing practice raf. destroyed dynamite in 1963. stable block, dated 1876 survives , converted house in 2010.
