the lifeboat remained @ newlyn until 1913, when new boathouse built @ penlee point south of newlyn on outskirts of mousehole. elevated little above water, , lifeboat launched down slipway open water @ states of tide. old pulling , sailing lifeboat replaced 1 motor in 1922. several similar motor lifeboats follow, culminating in solomon browne, wooden, twin engined, 47ft watson-class boat arrived @ station in 1960.
in 1936, coxswain frank blewitt awarded bronze medal rescuing crew of 9 ss taycraig after ran aground in mount s bay during gale. coxswain edwin madron received silver medal , mechanic johny drew bronze medal exceptional service in april 1947. took w , s out 30 feet (9.1 m) seas rescue 8 people hms warspite (03) ran aground on way breakers yard after had been retired @ end of second world war. madron subject of life in 1957 when surprised eamonn andrews @ king s theatre, hammersmith, london.
in january 1975, solomon browne launched force 12 hurricane when reported 13 crew members of mv lovat had abandoned ship 24 miles (39 km) south west of lizard point. helicopter saved 2 people rest drowned. lifeboat had drop safety rails around deck bodies hauled out of sea, while boat rolling side-to-side @ 60˚ , seas washing across boat. @ sea 8 hours. coxswain, trevelyan richards, awarded bronze medal.
