with exception of kildin sámi, sámi languages have own literary language written standard latin alphabet addition of special characters.


southern sami

southern sami follows principle of using majority language of particular country being used in basis orthography , has 2 separate versions: norwegian standard , swedish standard. letters enclosed in parentheses letters used in foreign words. in addition, ï [ɨ] central version of [i]. although difference indicated in dictionaries, texts not distinguish between two. collating order based on norwegian across both sides of border.
