there five-man breakaway in stage, formed of nick dougall (mtn–qhubeka), adrian honkisz (ccc–sprandi–polkowice), aleksandr komin (rusvelo), pirmin lang (iam cycling) , sjoerd van ginneken (team roompot). gained lead of 5 minutes, caught 20 km (12 mi) remaining, before beginning of final climb.


there further attacks on climb, principally nicholas edet (cofidis), won mountains classification points @ summit. carlos quintero (colombia), mirko selvaggi (wanty–groupe gobert) , peter kennaugh (team sky) attacked on descent, controlled peloton. race leader alberto contador (tinkoff–saxo) attacked on run finish, without success.


john degenkolb favourite win remaining group, surprised sprint 300 m (980 ft) out juan josé lobato (movistar team). degenkolb attempted chase lobato, spaniard won several bike lengths second win of 2015.


bob jungels (trek factory racing) in second place before stage, not follow pace on final climb , dropped out of top 10. beñat intxausti (movistar team) moved second, while chris froome (team sky) in third place 1 of 4 team sky riders in top 10.
