Language Garo people



the garo language belongs bodo–garo branch of tibeto-burman language family. language not traditionally written down; customs, traditions, , beliefs handed down orally. believed written language lost in transit present garo hills. garo language/script written on skins of cows; while on way ancestors faced famines cooked them. written language/script lost.


the garo language has dialects — a·beng or am·beng, matabeng, atong, me·gam, matchi, dual [matchi-dual], ruga, chibok, chisak, gara, gan·ching [gara-gan·ching], a·we etc. in bangladesh a·beng usual dialect written in bengali script, a·chik used more in india. a·we has become standard dialect of garos written in roman script. a·we used in garo literature and, hence, translation of bible. garo language has similarities boro-kachari, rava, dimasa, , kok-borok languages.
