although canal in full operation, there numerous challenges facing proprietors. works in slovenly , unfinished state , , took until 1830 reservoir @ moorswater , feed crylla completed. road had made moorswater liskeard @ dean well, @ cost of £1,200, completed in 1829. dean @ north-western extremity of dean street, road referred appear new road . traffic transferred road steep , inconvenient turnpike road ( old road ) , canal company demanded subscription maintenance turnpike trustees. users of canal company s road subject tolls.


about 1835 section of road looe mills highwood constructed canal company. highwood little less mile (about 1 km) north of looe mills, on turnpike road north-west of moorswater. new road gave access highwood canal, using turnpike road moorswater looe mills.
