a major strength of museum lies in diversity of exhibits , multiple utilization capabilities of facilities.
big bend farm
a considerable portion of grounds devoted re-creation of rural life in north florida in 1880. included in effort homes, gardens, farm buildings (with appropriate farm animals), gristmill, , turpentine commissary.

wildlife florida
another major portion of museum devoted florida wildlife, many animals in relatively large, well-vegetated areas, similar native habitats. of note black bears, white-tailed deer, , bobcats, several endangered species: red wolves , florida panthers. there several aviaries, snake exhibit, small mammals, , guest animal habitat, introduced in 1988.
twice day, there animal encounters, during staff member shows , teaches animal. may show birds of prey, snakes, rabbit, or skunk. many of animals used education have been injured, birds of prey. since these animals not survive in wild, in accordance state laws, must either used education or put down.
old florida
buildings of historical interest or importance comprise old florida segment of museum: 19th century bellevue plantation (once home of catherine murat, relative of george washington, , wife of napoleon bonaparte s nephew achille murat), 1937 bethlehem missionary baptist church (founded rev. james page, slave preacher), 1890s concord schoolhouse, reminder of african-american educational facilities, , 1920s caboose.

this section includes fleischmann natural science building 2 freshwater aquaria , facilities bird watching, phipps gallery changing exhibits of local art, culture , history, , discovery center, family interactive area hands-on exhibits natural history , culture of north florida.

the museum has several nature trails, 1 of includes boardwalk on flooded cypress habitat, , number of special-use facilities indoor exhibits , workspaces.
