the ls6 designation used on 454 cid chevrolet big-block engine of 1970s, iteration of gm iron duke engine late 1970s

the ls6 higher-output version of gm s ls1 engine , retains same capacity. initial 2001 ls6 produced 385 bhp (287 kw) , 385 lbf·ft (522 n·m), engine modified 2002 through 2004 produce 405 bhp (302 kw) , 400 lbf·ft (540 n·m) of torque. ls6 used in high-performance c5 corvette z06 model, cadillac cts v-series getting 400 bhp (300 kw) engine later. v-series used ls6 2 years before being replaced ls2 in 2006. 2006, z06 replaced ls6 new ls7. ls6 shares basic block architecture gm ls1 engine, other changes made design such windows cast block between cylinders, improved main web strength , bay bay breathing, intake manifold , maf-sensor higher flow, camshaft higher lift , more duration, higher compression ratio of 10.5:1, sodium filled valves, , revised oiling system better suited high lateral acceleration. ls6 intake manifolds used on 2001+ ls1/6 engines. casting number, located on top rear edge of block, 12561168. applications:
