the new courthouse 1 big cube courtrooms @ corners. ten stories tall above grade , 409,397 square feet. courthouse 180 feet long, 180 feet wide, , 200 feet tall. has ten courtrooms (seven district judges, 3 magistrate judges), fourteen judges chambers, , 2 underground levels parking , building support. houses offices of u.s. marshals service , u.s. probation , pretrial services office. new courthouse meets new federal building security standards; courthouse set fifty feet street , includes blast protection features, including progressive collapse design.

the first floor has public café, jury orientation suite, , intake counter. second floor office space court clerk s office. ten current courtrooms on floors three, 7 , eight. fifth , sixth floors have additional space 9 more courtrooms created, if needed. fourth floor contains offices. judges chambers located on top 2 floors.

the courthouse has modern style, , relies extensively on daylighting. many windows of clear glass, skin of anodized aluminum, allow courthouse make extensive use of natural light in working spaces. of courtrooms built against exterior walls allow light shine in. courtrooms occupy 4 corners of building, bathed in filtered natural daylight, bringing clarity , context proceedings within. building contains ten-story atrium containing ten-story suspended sculpture (composed of 380 hexagonal tubes of optical aluminum on cables) glass artist james carpenter. courthouse features 2 reflecting pools on building s west side near main entry. smaller 1 located south, while larger 1 north runs length of building. building earned leed gold certification energy efficiency , environmental sustainability.
