radič born in ca. 1363 or 1372, in village of kamenica, family of miners, extracted lead, zinc , silver rudnik mine. radič s father vojvoda milutin, lord of gruža. brought @ court of prince lazar of serbia , friends heir, stefan. @ age of 17, joined father s contingent , fought @ battle of kosovo (1389) under command of prince lazar against ottoman sultan murad i; according tradition prayed saint george , promised if survive, found vraćevšnica monastery sign of gratitude. older soldiers made fun of age, survived without scratch, , became glorified strongest , courageous fighter of younger generation. bulk of both armies wiped out in battle, including prince lazar , murad i; although ottomans annihilated serbian army, suffered high casualties delayed progress. serbs left few men defend lands, while turks had many more troops in east. consequently, serbian principalities not ottoman vassals, 1 after other became in following decades.
