after extensive engineering process on several years, holden special vehicles fitted ls7 special edition model, w427. hsv-tuned engine produced 375 kw (503 hp) , 640 n·m (470 lb·ft). w427 unveiled @ melbourne international motor show on february 29, 2008 , went on sale in august 2008. first australian car fitted engine, however, csv gts of 2007, claimed have power output of 400 kw (536 hp) , 600 n·m (440 lb·ft).

the l76/l92/ls3 cylinder heads use 2.165 in (55.0 mm) intake valves, , 1.59 in (40 mm) exhaust valves. improved manufacturing efficiency makes these heads cheaper outgoing ls6 heads, , severely undercuts aftermarket heads. large valves, however, limit maximum rpm - 6000 in l76 (with afm), , 6600 in ls3 (with hollow stem valves).
in addition above, dual-mode exhaust package bypass on acceleration available on c6 corvettes. dual-mode exhaust uses vacuum-actuated outlet valves, control engine noise during low-load operation, open maximum performance during high-load operation. system similar c6 z06, uses 2.5 in (64 mm) diameter exhaust compared z06 s 3 in (76 mm). power boosted 436 hp (325 kw) , 428 lb·ft (580 n·m) option. similar system optional on later model 5th generation chevrolet camaros , standard on 2016-2017 chevrolet ss, no horsepower or torque increases advertised on vehicles.
from april 2008, australian performance car manufacturer, hsv, adopted ls3 standard v8 throughout range, replacing ls2. ls3 received modifications application hsv e series models, producing 425 bhp (317 kw). ls3 engine in e series ii gts (released september 2009) upgraded produce 436 bhp (325 kw). hsv my12.5 excluding base maloo , clubsport variants have been upgraded produce 436 bhp (325 kw).
