History Louise Lincoln Kerr House and Studio



louise lincoln born in cleveland in 1892. learned piano , viola mother , studied @ barnard college in new york.


she married peter kjer in 1936 (the family name changed kerr) , had 8 children. 1 of them had respiratory condition, prompted family move phoenix in 1936. bought 47 acres of land in scottsdale along lincoln drive, named father. after peter died 3 years later, louise returned writing music. benefactor of musical institutions in valley, including phoenix symphony , asu school of music. other musical societies met @ house, including phoenix chamber music society , national society of arts , letters.


the kerr studio scottsdale s premier music venue until scottsdale center arts opened in 1975.


under university

upon kerr s death on december 10, 1977, arizona state university s college of fine arts (now herberger institute design , arts) received property, , in 1981, management of center passed college of fine arts gammage memorial auditorium. transfer involved further renovations site, including lighted parking lot, new furnace , air conditioning units house, , code compliance work. further changes made in 1988, involving re-roofing studio , repairing walls.
