thunjan paramba

the birthplace of thunjathu ramanujan ezhuthachan, father of malayalam language. famous thunjan utsavam held here every year in first week of february. during festival many literary luminaries, singers , classical dancers gather here.


thunjan paramba located in annara, 1.5 km away tirur railway station. memorial great poet has been built @ thunjan paramba, week-long literary mela organised in last week of december. place sacred speak malayalam.

kerala s chief minister oommen chandy inaugurated thunchathu ezhuthachan malayalam university @ tirur thunchanparambu on 1 november 2012. there 7 ma courses in malayalam language, linguistics, creative writing, culture , traditional studies, mass communication , journalism, local self governance , environmental studies. second intake of students inducted on 18 august 2014.


thirunavaya/mamankam festival

thirunavaya small town in tirur. historically important land of ancient mamankam, thirunavaya 7 kilometres (4.3 mi) south of tirur on banks of bharathapuzha river.


the area has 3 temples dedicated trimurtis, gods of creation, sustenance , annihilation of life, according hindu belief strewn on banks of bharathapuzha. well-known vedic vidyalaya othanmar madom of ancient times, on bank of bharathapuzha, near siva temple. madom centre of aryanisation through sanskrit , vedic education, thirunavaya believed main centre parasurama brought , settled brahmins.


the palace (mana) of puranic fame azhvanchery thamprakkal 2 kilometres (1.2 mi) north of thirunnavaya.


chandanakavu, birthplace of great 16th-century sanskrit poet , grammarian melapthur narayana bahttathiri, 10 kilometres (6.2 mi) tirur on thirunnavaya-kottakal road. memorial has been built there poet, small children brought formal initiation learning on vijayadasami day, in thunjan parambu.


navamunkuda temple, believed constructed nava yogis on right bank of bharathapuzha, important vishnu temple in kerala. pitru tharpanam ritual, held here on day of amavasi in karkidakam (july-august). balikarma offered people in wet clothes, after dip in river, salvation of sins , appease manes.

wagon tragedy

the wagon tragedy death of large number of prisoners on 10 november 1921 in malabar region of kerala state of india. prisoners had been taken custody following unrest known moplah rebellion in malabar, , deaths through apparent negligence discredited british raj , generated sympathy indian independence movement.


inspired mahatma gandhi , national leaders of india, there widespread , peaceful uprising against british colonial rule of india. after series of events culminated in violent clashes between police , protesters, martial law introduced , rebellion crushed. british packed 70 prisoners railway goods wagon @ tirur railway station sent coimbatore jails. time reached destination 61 of prisoners had died suffocation. monument notorious tragedy can seen in tirur.
