in 2003, hbo films created miniseries version of play. kushner adapted original text screen, , mike nichols directed. hbo broadcast film in various formats: three-hour segments correspond millennium approaches , perestroika, one-hour chapters correspond act or 2 of each of these plays. first 3 chapters broadcast on december 7, international acclaim, final 3 chapters following. angels in america watched made-for-cable movie in 2003 , won both golden globe , emmy best miniseries.
kushner made changes play (especially part two, perestroika) work on screen, hbo version faithful representation of kushner s original work. kushner has been quoted saying knew nichols right person direct movie when, @ first meeting, nichols said wanted actors play multiple roles, had been done in onstage productions.
the lead cast includes al pacino, meryl streep, emma thompson, jeffrey wright (repeating tony-winning broadway role), justin kirk, ben shenkman, patrick wilson, , mary-louise parker.

angels in america – opera made world premiere @ théâtre du châtelet in paris, france, on november 23, 2004. opera based on both parts of angels in america fantasia, script re-worked , condensed fit both parts 2 , half hour show. composer peter eötvös explains: in opera version, put less emphasis on political line kushner...i rather focus on passionate relationships, on highly dramatic suspense of wonderful text, on permanently uncertain state of visions. german version of opera followed suit in mid-2005. in late 2005, pbs announced air live filmed version of opera part of great performances lineup. opera made debut in june 2006 @ stanford calderwood pavilion in boston, massachusetts.

the text of prior walter s soliloquy scene 5 of perestroika set music michael shaieb 2009 festival celebrating kushner s work @ guthrie theater. work commissioned twin cities gay men s chorus, had commissioned shaieb s through glass, darkly in 2008. work premiered @ guthrie in april 2009.
