the main northern railway line sydney passes through tunnel on eastern end of island, joined brooklyn railway causeway across sandbrook inlet, , cogra point on northern shore of hawkesbury river second hawkesbury river railway bridge. spans second bridge, built during 1940s when became necessary replace first bridge, assembled on north eastern side of long island, west of current bridge. remains of docks , crane mountings still present on hillside, , along water s edge.


immediately east of existing railway tunnel first railway tunnel, bored through island part of southern approach first hawkesbury river railway bridge. abandoned, along associated alignment on each side of river once replacement bridge completed in 1946.
