early years , peaceful, world lays me down (2006–2008)

the band released debut album, entitled peaceful, world lays me down, on 11 august 2008. album peaked @ number 5 on official uk albums chart , has received positive reviews. album featured brass accompaniment, provided jon carvell (trombone) , sam kinrade (trumpet). band’s original line-up included laura marling, featured backing vocals on first album , performed band as touring schedule allowed. in mid-2008, marling left band several months after album’s release. however, continued collaborate band member tom hobden, played fiddle on albums speak because can , short movie

the first days of spring (2009)

from january 2009 onwards, band started work on second full-length lp, entitled first days of spring. along album release, charlie fink wrote , directed film runs entire length of album, entitled first days of spring. fink decided not feature female backing vocals on second lp due painful inspiring departure of laura marling pursue solo career. separation band did inspire change traditional sound, signaling new direction in band s music , lyrics. album released on 31 august 2009, little on year after debut. 3 days prior release doug fink, brother of lead singer charlie, announced leaving band pursue career in medicine. @ same time fred abbott joined band on second guitar/piano , doug temporarily replaced former pull tiger tail drummer jack hamson.

on 30 september 2009, bbc news reported band s equipment, including guitars, bass instruments , drum kit, stolen car park near club academy in manchester, england. theft occurred on night of 29 september 2009. equipment recovered in late december 2009.

the first days of spring has been met positive reviews, showing more critical acclaim previous release. nme called album immense , gave strong 9/10, whilst times awarded album full 5 stars. towards end of 2009 guardian newspaper put @ number 7 in top albums of 2009. times newspaper put album @ number 9, , in amazon s top albums of 2009.

last night on earth (2010–2012)

in january 2010, announced noah , whale heading recording studio prepare third album, band considering title old joy, demos new album recorded @ bethnal green great synagogue in london, featuring original drummer doug fink, band recorded album in los angeles, working producer jason lader. later, in interview website soonermusic.com, lead singer charlie announced album called last night on earth. on 3 december 2010 band released track upcoming album on official website, titled wild thing . first official single album, l.i.f.e.g.o.e.s.o.n. , released on 23 january 2011, peaking @ number 14 in uk singles chart. last night on earth released on 7 march 2011 through mercury records. during period, michael petulla introduced band s new drummer. bassist matt owens , guitarist fred abbott auditioned upwards of 100 drummers, after placing advertisement on gumtree , narrowed down 10, point band rehearsed each see best fit. petulla, last auditionee of day, picked.

following commercial success of last night on earth, band toured extensively, including 3 separate treks united states. there week did japan, australia, canada , chicago in 8 days. , hate flying , remarked fink.

heart of (2013)

in january 2013, band announced releasing new album, entitled heart of on 6 may 2013, along four-show residency @ london s palace theatre (24 april 2013 , 5, 12 , 19 may 2013). short film accompany new album, written , produced lead singer charlie fink. on 21 march @ 7:30 pm, band aired there come time on bbc radio 1. prior album s release, band released images of several independent record stores fans find tape of new album. when tapes had been found, band made album available public listen on website. album s second single, lifetime , released in august 2013. single accompanied recording of band performing daft punks s digital love , music video created fourteen-nineteen. after album s release, band embarked on heart of tour included shows in britain , north america, headlining wilderness festival , supporting vampire weekend in uk arena tour during november 2013. on 22 november 2013, band announced final date of tour @ islington assembly hall on 10 december, show consisted of requests audience, before taking time out work on new material. on 24 december 2013, released short film titled heart of way of saying thank amazing 2013 .

hiatus , split (2013–2015)

following shows @ london s islington assembly hall , manchester s deaf institute in december 2013, band embarked on period of hiatus . after year of radio silence, band responded fan appeals updates posting links personal social media accounts. in tweet has since been deleted, fink confirmed on personal twitter noah , whale still in 2015. however, on 1 april 2015, band announced on social media split. after split, matt owens announced solo album, did fred abbott, helped form new band orphan colours former members of ahab , danny , champions of world. hobden has begun touring mumford & sons playing alongside both abbott , petulla matt owens backing band, delusional vanity project . abbott released debut solo album serious poke in july 2015, , has continued working hobden on yearly christmas project entitled heathen , holy. in june 2015 fink shared new track titled heartbeat lost rhythm , on soundcloud. fink announced writing music old vic theatre production of dr. seuss classic lorax, , later released debut studio album cover tracks, in 2017, accompanied stage show in performed.
