ratnasooriya has received presidential research award on 14 occasions based on research published in journals indexed under science citation index, 2 lifetime awards namely, cvcd award , grc award sri lanka association advancement of science. ratnasooriya has received research award best research scientist in faculty of science, university of colombo, sri lanka 12 consecutive years , university grants commission research achievement award excellence in research, 3 merit awards , 2 commendation awards natural research energy , science authority of sri lanka.
