224 621 ce, area subject sassanid dynasty. area known xuzestan during period.

during years of reign of shapur ii (309-379), arabs crossed persian gulf bahrain ardashir-khora of fars , raided interior. in retaliation, shapur ii led expedition through bahrain, defeated combined forces of arab tribes of taghleb, bakr bin wael, , abd al-qays , advanced temporarily yamama in central najd. sassanids resettled these tribes in kerman , ahvaz. arabs named shapur ii, shabur dhul-aktāf (he owns shoulders because either pierced or dislocated captured arabs shoulders or had wide shoulders) after battle. (p. 202, encyclopædia iranica). [1]

it should pointed out arab presence in iran, did not begin arab conquest of sassanid empire. mutual infiltration , out of iran, began before muslim conquests , continued result of joint exertions of civilized arabs (ahl al-madar) desert arabs (ahl al-wabar). there tribesmen of bakr bin wael , tamim(thamim) in khuzestan , fars prior arrival of arab muslim armies. of these arab groups sedentary while others nomadic. fought on behalf of sassanid empire (taghleb, eyad), while others (lakhmid, shayban, bakr bin wael) began struggling against sassanids. these latter group had won celebrated, if limited, victory @ du qar around 604 ce

some local arabs led al-motanna bin hareta al-shaybani helped direct attention of nascent muslim state toward iran converting islam , negotiating medina support in anti-sassanid moves. (p. 210-211 encyclopædia iranica [2]).
