the town surrounded on sides mountains. great smoky mountains rise north, cowee mountains rise south, , plott balsams rise east. boundary of nantahala national forest passes south of city, , boundary of great smoky mountains national park passes north. qualla boundary, comprises bulk of reservation of eastern band of cherokee indians, dominates area east.


bryson city centered around junction of everett street , main street. main street part of u.s. route 19, connects bryson city cherokee northeast , murphy southwest.


according united states census bureau, town has total area of 2.2 square miles (5.7 km), of which, 2.1 square miles (5.4 km) of land , 0.1 square miles (0.26 km) of (5.33%) water.
