nicholson offers extensive transition supports new students including formal peer mentor program, shadow day experiences, dances students in grades 7 , 8 , focused guidance support within both elementary , secondary environments. school offers courses constitute ontario secondary school diploma curriculum of ib program.
students attend nicholson catholic college taught under ontario secondary school diploma, or ib world education curriculum if enrolled in program. 2008 , onward nicholson catholic college has maintained consistent school overall ranking of between 6.9 , 7.4 out of 10. gender gap between both males , females in mathematics has been equal in same timeframe since 2008 slight change year year, although same gap between males , females has been more skewed towards female students ontario secondary school literacy test every year 2012. however, despite unequal success rates between male , female students, nicholson s osslt results still exceeded provincial norm 10% in 2012.

apprenticeship method of training in employers train workers become skilled workers through on-the-job training , classroom instruction. ontario youth apprenticeship program students have career plans become apprentice in skilled trades. during secondary school, students begin theory , hands-on-experience required apprenticeship while completing high school credits. hands-on experience obtained through co-op program.
the algonquin lakeshore technology center (at sir james whitney school deaf): algonquin lakeshore school board , sir james whitney school have formed partnership in order provide technological training students. course offerings include health , personal services, hairstyling , aesthetics, transportation, design, manufacturing , construction technologies. these courses offered off campus in 2 credit blocks. nicholson expanding broad number of community partnerships support experiential learning students of grade levels build bridges apprenticeships, college programs , university programs
the life long learning center (eastern campus – cobourg, ontario): students interested in construction trades may apply program prepares students interested in becoming certified brick , stonemason, cement finisher or construction craft worker. after five-week pre- apprenticeship program students placed in field of choice , embark on apprenticeship journey.
dual credit: school + college + work: dual credit program provides secondary school student opportunity earn 4 dual credits participating in apprenticeship training , college courses. while enrolled in college dual credits earn both high school , college credit s completing course @ college.
international students
nicholson catholic college accepts on twenty-five international students come asia, germany, mexico, , south america enroll in ontario secondary school curriculum. these students stay families in community duration of stay, no longer 1 school year, although choose pursue canadian post-secondary opportunities such university or college. purpose of international student program students different countries learn culture, faith, , values in canadian society. hoped students in school community permanently reside in canada gain genuine understanding , appreciation different cultures through interaction exchange students.
ib school
at nicholson, students have option of taking either full ib diploma program or select courses in known ib certificate. students work towards both diploma , certificate program in grades eleven , twelve.
the school offers hl biology, hl chemistry, hl visual arts, hl english a1, sl french b, sl world religions, , sl mathematics. however, school allows students take online courses, such sl spanish ab initio , hl mathematics, through pamoja online education under special circumstances. hl biology taught ib group 4 subjects, , ib group 6 subjects, students can choose take either hl chemistry or hl visual arts.
