naval radio station masset (1943 - 1968)
the station constructed in 1942 naval radio station (nrs) masset , became active on 23 february 1943.
nrs masset used high-frequency direction finding (hfdf) intercept station , relay station ship-to-shore communications. @ end of world war ii nrs masset placed caretaker status until reactivation in 1949, earthquake damaged station , operations suspended until 1951 when masset became part of military s suprad (supplementary radio) system.
canadian forces station masset (1968 - 1997)
the station re-designated canadian forces station masset following unification of canadian forces in 1968.
in 1971, wullenweber an/frd-10 antenna built part of larger shore-based hfdf system locate , classify enemy ships (known project clarinet bullseye). frd-10 @ cfs masset remained in use after end of clarinet bullseye.
cfs leitrim detachment masset (1997 - )
cfs masset stood down , made detachment of cfs leitrim in 1997. equipment @ facility operated remotely leitrim gather signals intelligence canadian forces intelligence branch , communications security establishment.
