meera released on diwali day in 1945. 2 years later, hindi-dubbed version (which had scenes on subbulakshmi reshot) came out in 1947, , subbulakshmi became national celebrity. film had on-screen introduction noted politician , poet, sarojini naidu, described ms nightingale of india . film seen pandit jawaharlal nehru, mountbattens , other leaders became ardent fans , friends. went on conquer new areas around world , became international celebrity. film screened @ various film festivals such prague film festival, venice film festival , toronto international film festival.
