hell s hinges tells story of weak-willed minister, rev. bob henley (played standing), comes wild , debauched frontier town sister, faith (played williams). owner of saloon, silk miller (played hollingsworth), , accomplices sense trouble , encourage local rowdies disrupt attempts evangelize community. hard-bitten gunman blaze tracy (played hart), dangerous man around, is, however, won on sincerity of faith. intervenes expel rowdies newly built church.

silk adopts new approach. encourages dance-hall girl, dolly (played glaum), seduce rev. henley. gets him drunk, , spends night in room. following morning whole town learns of fall grace. blaze rides out find doctor near-demented minister.

the disgraced minister, having rapidly descended alcoholism, goaded helping rowdy element burn down church. church-goers try defend church, , gunfight erupts in minister killed , church set ablaze. blaze returns late stop destruction. in revenge, blaze kills silk , burns down whole town, beginning saloon. , faith leave start new life.
