africa live!

a hippopotamus comes air @ abode in san antonio zoo.

africa live! san antonio zoo s newest exhibit. consisting of 3 phases, africa live! gives guests chance experience lake tanganyika , lake malawi. guests can observe hippopotamus, nile crocodile, , african cichlids through underwater viewing windows. found in africa live! angola colobus, okapi, african wild dog, rock hyrax, wolf s mona monkey, , various species of birds.

phase iii of africa live consist of new or remodeled exhibits african elephants, zebra, giraffes, , rhinoceros. in november 2015, zoo opened remodeled giraffe exhibit feeding station , other animals zebras , ostriches move in them.

african plains

african plains takes visitors through rocky, arid expanse, backed natural limestone walls. african plains hosts number of animals including zebra, ostrich, topi, marabou stork, , various antelope.

amazonia

amazonia houses zoo s south american plants , animals. zoo s main waterway makes large portion of amazonia. open flight deck allows guests enter exhibit , observe scarlet ibis, among other birds, family of spider monkeys, giant anteaters, , purchase food feed tilapia.

several cats, including jaguar , ocelot located within amazonia. exhibit home new world monkeys including tamarins, marmosets, capuchin monkeys, , sakis. other animals include anaconda, armadillos, sloths, bats, , andean condor.

cat grotto

a cave-like area visitors walk through. houses zoo s smaller cats, such fishing cat, black-footed cats, clouded leopards, , caracal. few mammals similar cats: ringtail cat, fossa, , northern treeshrew.

cranes of world

the zoo contains whooping cranes, blue cranes, manchurian cranes, , hooded crane. exhibit lush environment constructed on existing waterway allows guests immersed in cranes habitat. opportunity becoming increasingly rare in wild.

gibbon forest

spanning quarry wall zoo s white-cheeked gibbon exhibit. plenty of ropes swing on, stay high above, while below family of asian small-clawed otters play in river.

hixon bird house

a enclosed circular building, glass-fronted enclosures displaying wide variety of bird species on world. in middle of rotunda small island planted trees , shrubs, , containing small pond. free-flight birds stay here, , venture out open explore.

opened in 1948, in small aquarium displays both fresh water , salt water animals, including assorted bony fish, few sharks, , alligator snapping turtle.

rift valley

visitors head straight african plains rift valley. walking uphill, zoo displays large animals such white rhinoceros , cheetah, smaller animals such dik-dik, duiker, , bateleur eagle. head down, ll come across more antelopes, warthogs, , lions.

toadally

a building housing zoo s amphibian collection, including frogs, toads, salamanders, , caecilians.
