the chinese egret averages 68 cm in height. plumage white throughout bird s life , resembles little egret egretta garzetta. outside breeding season bill dusky basal portion being flesh coloured , lores , legs yellow-green, while iris yellow. individuals similar in season. in breeding season adults develop luxuriant crest on 11 cm long. develops long lanceolate plumes on breast , dorsal plumes extending beyond tail, called aigrettes , similar of little egret. bare parts change too, bill becomes bright, orange, yellow while lores turn bright blue , legs black yellow feet.
