in 1990, group reunited second effort, titled highwayman 2, reached #4 on country album chart. lee clayton-penned song silver stallion first single , made country top 40. album nominated grammy best country vocal collaboration. highwayman 2 produced, once again, moman. 6 of songs written or co-written members of group.

the group s final release prior jennings s death in 2002 1995 s don was-produced album road goes on forever, (a robert earl keen cover), single, . tenth-anniversary edition of road goes on forever appeared in 2005, several bonus tracks added as, in versions, dvd containing video , documentary entitled live forever – in studio highwaymen.

the band continued tour late 1990s, before jennings , cash both started decline in health, prevented them maintaining full touring schedule. 4 continued perform solo artists, jennings briefly joining old dogs; jennings died in 2002 , cash died in 2003.
