the tsyklon-3, featured restartable third stage, first launched on 24 june 1977 plesetsk cosmodrome. tsyklon-3 39.27 metres (128.8 ft) long fueled mass of 186 190 tonnes. partially result of effort reduce number of soviet launch vehicles in use, replacing small r-12 derived kosmos booster , r-7 variants.


on 27 december 2000, tsyklon-3 failed in attempt carry 6 russian satellites orbit, plummeting earth. electrical failure in rocket s third stage suspected cause.


the tsyklon-3 retired after launching koronas-foton satellite on 30 january 2009.
