triprangode siva temple nearby has historical importance too. legend behind temple markandeyan, young devotee of lord siva, had parents take care of, scheduled die @ young age. when lord yama came take soul away, markandeyan approached lord vishnu (at navamukundan temple), request him save him death. lord vishnu had turn him down, , direct him request lord siva instead. off markandeya goes lord siva. said have embraced siva linga @ triprangode temple, , lord siva said have killed yama, messenger of death, @ spot. there total of 5 siva lingas @ temple. first being linga markandeyan embraced, next 3 being steps lord siva took on way killing lord yama, , last being extremely angry lord siva, after killing lord yama.
