king of nepal, rana bahadur shah took exile in varanasi 1800 1804 , titled himself swami nirgunanda . during exile, decided build replica of pashupatinath temple in varanasi. construction of temple commenced during exile / stay in varanasi. during construction, shah moved nepal. on 25 april 1806, rana bahadur shah stabbed death stepbrother, sher bahadur shah. son girvan yuddha bikram shah deva undertook construction of temple (now called nepali mandir), dharamshala , lalita ghat. construction got on 20 years after deadline.
