the sole maine girl scout council, girl scouts of maine, formed in october 2007 merger of abnaki girl scout council , girl scouts of kennebec council. serves on 14,000 girls , has 4,000 adult volunteers , headquartered in south portland, maine.


history

the first known active troop in maine in 1917 in augusta. abnaki girl scout council established in northern part of maine in 1962 bangor-brewer, central penobscot, presque isle , houlton councils , many lone troops. girl scouts of kennebec council established in 1963 11 southern maine councils , again many lone troops.
