it formed combination of havana northside high school in havana , james a. shanks high school in quincy. both schools formerly athletic rivals , represented respective towns. gerald ensley of tallahassee democrat wrote symbolic merger of [the 2 communities], eliciting concern optimism. upon opening serve midway in addition quincy , havana.

the school established on july 30, 2003, , opened on august 11 of year, @ least 130 employees , 1,200 students. mascot of east gadsden high jaguar, flower rosa american beauty rose, , lighted torch school emblem. there 3 school colors: carolina blue, silver, , light. motto lighting path excellence. opening ceremony featured al lawson, member of florida senate tallahassee.


immediately after school s opening administration made efforts improve fcat scores, including partnerships among teachers of separate subject areas , intensive mathematics classes; 2 predecessor schools had scored poorly on fcat.


joey striplin, head american football coach @ west gadsden high school, became head coach @ east gadsden high in january 2017.


as of march 2017 east gadsden high 54% occupied. on tuesday april 4, 2017 school board scheduled vote on whether east gadsden high , high school portion of west gadsden high should consolidate single high school. board voted 3-2 consolidate.


prior 2017 consolidation, school colors of east gadsden north carolina blue , silver. part of consolidation process, colors former west gadsden high school added. school mascot remained jaguar. previous principal of east gadsden, sonya jackson, became principal of west gadsden middle school. former principal of west gadsden high, juliette jackson, became principal of consolidated gadsden county high.
