mary hardy resembled woodforde in being loyal adherent of church of england, until in mid-1790s adopted methodism well. while attended both church , meeting house. few years before death ceased anglican worship , became fervent follower of john wesley — not in purpose-built chapels in cottage meetings. in 1808 opened meeting house in washerwoman’s small cottage.

mary hardy died @ letheringsett hall on 23 march 1809, 2 days after making last entry in diary. buried in family vault in letheringsett churchyard, joining elder son raven had died of tuberculosis in 1787 aged 19. william hardy joined them in churchyard on 22 august 1811.
