the old ceremonial rooms follows:


zenta room

the zenta room


the zenta room ( zenta előterem) on first floor of baroque wing, situated next audience antechamber. opened main staircase of central wing , first room of ceremonial apartments on side. in 1900s, had white-golden stucco decoration 1 chandelier. name of chamber referred large painting of battle of zenta contained therein.

the audience antechamber (fogadási váróterem) situated north of ballroom on first floor of baroque wing. in baroque era called antichambre ihrer majestat der kaiserin ( majesty empress antechamber ). room gave access maria theresa s private apartments ballroom. in 1900s, audience antechamber became part of ceremonial apartments , had same white-golden rococo stucco decoration white antechamber on other side.

the grand throne room (c. 1894)


the grand throne room (nagy trónterem), formerly known ballroom (nagyterem), on first floor of baroque wing had several layers of baroque decoration second half of 18th , 19th century. 2 surviving drawings record oldest form of room. jakob schmutzer s drawing 1777 shows opening ceremony of eötvös loránd university after moved palace. room had late baroque decoration double grooved corinthian pilasters between windows , stucco garlands. walls decorated vinzenz fischer s frescoes of 4 faculties. józsef pollencig s drawing 1795 shows ball scene in prunksaal . pilasters kept, frescoes covered, , whole room stuccoed. on vault coat-of-arms of kingdom of hungary can seen. after destruction of 1849 siege, room redecorated in neo-baroque style. in 1892 old ballroom rebuilt new ceiling , gallery towards lions court; 3 of side walls preserved. enlarged again after 1896. function of ballroom given new hall , room converted main throne hall instead. in 1900s, room had rococo white-golden stucco decoration 3 large chandeliers.


vinzenz fischer s frescoes re-discovered in 1953 during post-war reconstruction. in spite of this, decoration layers destroyed. today houses gothic altar collection of hungarian national gallery.

the white antechamber (fehér előterem) on first floor of baroque wing , situated south of throne room. in baroque era called zweyten antichambre ( second antechamber ). in 1900s had rococo white-golden stucco decoration 1 chandelier , white rococo stove.

the coronation room ( koronázás előterem), on first floor of baroque wing, situated next white antechamber. opened main staircase of southern wing , first room of ceremonial apartments on side. in 1900s had white-golden stucco decoration 1 chandelier. name of chamber referred painting of franz joseph s coronation king of hungary after austro-hungarian compromise of 1867.
