at instigation of mother, lady catherine melville, memorial fountain erected via public subscription memory of whyte-melville in market street, st andrews, fife in 1880; standing @ height of approximately 14 feet, three-tier cascading fountain constructed using sandstone , dalbeattie granite , features 4 marble plaques dedicated whyte-melville - these include bust, family coat of arms, arms of coldstream guards, , memorial inscription. due corrosion of internal pipe works, fountain fell disuse (possibly in 1930s) , many decades treated flower-bed, planted largely roses, , during summer months, annual flowers. sequel successful campaign local councillor , st andrews merchants’ association, whyte-melville memorial fountain restored, refitted new piping , formally reconnected water mains on wednesday 8 july 2015.
