acle straight (new road)

a study on a47 concluded in 2001 looked @ improving new road, i.e. section of a47 between acle , great yarmouth known acle straight. improvement of acle straight has become point of contention between interested parties due passage through norfolk broads, area of important ecological , conservation significance limits development. study recommended widening rather dualling of acle straight opposed broadland district council, great yarmouth borough council, norfolk police authority , majority of local respondents believed dualling of road necessary improve road safety, decrease journey time , support economic development of great yarmouth. dualling opposed environment agency, council national parks (cnp) , broads authority due impact on biodiversity , internationally important wildlife sites. these parties did cautiously support further investigation option widening following further investigation of environmental impact.

acle straight safety improvement scheme

in 2006 program of safety improvement acle straight announced. include road resurfacing, better road markings, improved visibility , installation of safety cameras @ estimated total cost of £1.6 million. result monitored whilst long term improvements, such widening, considered. in october 2009 after announced £40,000 feasibility study, see whether roadside ditches along nine-mile stretch moved further without disturbing delicate marshland habitat had been delayed until autumn 2010 @ earliest.

norwich northern distributor road

a £117 million road scheme north of norwich, linking a1067 , norwich international airport a47, sponsored , managed norfolk county council. priority scheme norfolk county council , attracted strong opposition both locally , environmental groups. on 2 june 2015 scheme given go ahead, in 2017 parts of road opened complete road scheduled completed in 2018.

norwich western link

in 2007 norfolk county council started developing proposal link road between a47 , a1067 in area between hockering , lenwade. 5 different route options considered ranged 1.5 km 3.4 km of new road construction , estimated construction cost of between £5.8 million - £9.1 million. public consultation on proposal held between july , september 2007 support given option 1 positive responses residents, businesses , parish , district councils. although costing more £5 million scheme did not meet of targets of local transport plan , did not qualify regional funding. funding scheme therefore have found county council. scheme not progressed.

in april 2017 norfolk county council voted make norwich western link 1 of 3 top highway priorities. scheme connect a47 @ easton a1067 @ attlebridge @ end of norwich northern distributor road , consultants have been brought in progress scheme.

other proposed improvements

in 2012 norfolk county council launched strategic route prospectus detailed improvement schemes along a47 between peterborough , king s lynn. list of improvements, costing total £526 million, included dualling sections of road , other junction improvements. sections of road dualled acle straight, blofeld burlingham, north tuddenham easton , east winch/middleton bypass. other improvements detailed 4 schemes @ great yarmouth, including £112 million third river crossing, 4 junction improvements along norwich southern bypass , improvements 3 junctions @ king s lynn.

on 8 october 2012 announced improvements a1/a47 junction @ wansford , roundabout @ honingham approved pinch point funding. on 1 december 2014 announced package of improvements a47 worth total of £300 million funded during 2015-20 parliament. shadow channcellor ed balls said proposed improvements honoured incoming labour government. proposed improvements consisted of
