in january 1967, reported returning recording, three-year contract had been signed abc-paramount. in february, began nationwide tour bb king. in april 1967, billboard reported had gone australia 6 weeks of dates in hotels , theaters. later year, appeared @ chevron-hilton in sydney, australia. stayed there month. 1967 album way out down under received favorable review billboard. album arranged , conducted johnny pate. quite possible time in australia influence on title of album, featured kangaroo on front cover.

in june 1968, appeared on joey bishop show. along elliott, johnny mann , orchestra , collage appeared. in 1968, little friends album released on abc records. album included lennon & mccartney composition little friends , willie cooper & marshall boxley composition our love last forever , frank loesser composition if bell. received positive review in billboard, with, on if bell , voice being powerful, yet comfortable , great choice of material commented on.

1970s

december 1970 saw chicki horn appearing @ jimmy , wes pemberton s 21 club in virgin islands.

in march 1973, , al hibbler sang @ funeral of key club owner walter c. dawkins, believed have committed suicide in club shooting himself.

in 1975, following completion of 2 week @ holiday house in pittsburgh hospitalized result of severe anemia. spent month in columbus hospital, newark. benefit event held @ key club, 1 of favorites. though out of hospital, unable attend event still recovering , had been advised doctor refrain show business while. of people turned event singers lenny welch , gilbert nelsonn. sam williams express there too. others attended singer sister billie lee, husband horace sims, fashion designer freddie roach , photographer irving overby. later part of mid-1970s appearing @ club daiquiri in st. thomas sam williams express, group had teamed years before. returning band after illness, changed name of band sam williams-lu elliott experience. in addition updated jazz tunes, covering rock , soul material included covers of songs al green , barry white. popular demand appear again in february 1976.

in first quarter of 1981, elliott had appeared @ bally casino few times period of 3 months. in mid-march 1981, appeared @ cookery @ east eighth street @ university place in new york, backed duo consisting of robert banks on piano , jimmy lewis on bass. covering material duke ellington , billy holliday songs such mood indigo , sophisticated lady , don t mean thing . elliott brought cookery after resident artist, 86 year old alberta hunter fell , broke hip. sought out club s owner barney josephson, tried fill hunter s absence other singers did not work out. remembered had heard singing @ st. peters lutheran church in lexington avenue. contacted her. in may of year singing there tuesday saturday, backed gerald cook on piano , jimmy lewis on bass. on saturday, december 12, announced miss lu elliott , jazz trio play free show @ citicorp market in new york. in january 1982, opened several weeks @ golden nugget casino.
