the party s distinctive logo designed in 1968 painter , poet roland giguère. consists of stylised letter q, represented blue circle broken red arrow. creator meant allegory of parti québécois breaking circle of colonialism claimed canada imposing on quebec , opening quebec upon world , future. pq has made few significant modifications logo during history. in 1985 made circle , arrow thicker, , placed tip of latter @ centre of circle. original saw span whole diameter. when placed upon blue background instead of white one, circle commonly turned white, single main design variation observed.


the party revealed new logo on 21 february 2007, @ beginning of 2007 provincial election campaign. while maintaining basic style of past logos, q redesigned , modernized. in addition, tail of q recoloured green.
