although bargadari act of 1950 recognised rights of bargadars higher share of crops land tilled, not implemented fully. large tracts, beyond prescribed limit of land ceiling, remained rich landlords. 1977 onwards major land reforms took place in west bengal. land in excess of land ceiling acquired , distributed amongst peasants.following land reforms land ownership pattern has undergone transformation. in 2013-14, persons engaged in agriculture in narayangarh cd block classified follows: bargadars 6.87%, patta (document) holders 27.77%, small farmers (possessing land between 1 , 2 hectares) 2.27%, marginal farmers (possessing land 1 hectare) 13.33% , agricultural labourers 49.76%.
in 2005-06 nett cropped area in narayangarh cd block 40,046 hectares , area in more 1 crop grown 26,266 hectares.
the extension of irrigation has played role in growth of predominant agricultural economy.in 2013-14, total area irrigated in narayangarh cd block 21,176 hectares, out of 20 hectares irrigated canal water, 588 hectares tank water, 19,508 hectares deep tubewells, 510 hectares shallow tubewells, 50 hectares river lift irrigation , 500 hectares other methods.
in 2013-14, narayangarh cd block produced 69,924 tonnes of aman paddy, main winter crop, 38,050 hectares, 231 tonnes of aus paddy (summer crop) 109 hectares, 60,026 tonnes of boro paddy (spring crop) 17,073 hectares, 22 tonnes of wheat 10 hectares , 120 tonnes of potatoes 5 hectares. produced oilseeds.
