on june 29, 2012, sullinger selected 21st overall pick in 2012 nba draft boston celtics. on july 3, signed rookie scale contract celtics. on november 17, recorded first double-double 12 points , 11 rebounds in 107–89 win on toronto raptors. following night, scored season-high 16 points in loss detroit pistons. tied mark on december 25, recording 16 points , 7 rebounds in 93–76 win on brooklyn nets.


on february 1, 2013, sullinger underwent successful lumbar disk surgery , subsequently ruled out rest of season.


2013–14 season

on january 15, 2014, in win on toronto raptors, sullinger recorded 25 points , career-high 20 rebounds. sullinger s 20-20 first celtics player since kevin garnett did in 2007. on february 7, scored career-high 31 points in 99–89 win on sacramento kings.


2014–15 season

after averaging 14.4 points , 8.1 rebounds per game until 2015 nba all-star weekend, sullinger ruled indefinitely after x-rays on february 19 revealed stress reaction in left foot. 3 days later, ruled out rest of season after further medical evaluation determined sullinger had sustained left metatarsal stress fracture. however, in surprising move, sullinger returned action on april 3 against milwaukee bucks. entered game 4 minutes third quarter, missed both shots , didn t return part of gradual effort improve stamina.


2015–16 season

sullinger began 2015–16 season coming off bench first 3 games. started first game of season on november 4 against indiana pacers, replacing tyler zeller starting center. on december 7, 2015, sullinger scored 11 points , tied career high 20 rebounds in 111–93 win on new orleans pelicans. on february 7, 2016, tied season high 21 points in 128–119 win on sacramento kings.


on june 29, 2016, celtics tendered qualifying offer make sullinger restricted free agent. celtics later withdrew qualifying offer on july 8, making him unrestricted free agent.
