lawson signed cincinnati kids of major indoor soccer league (misl) in 1978 both team , league prepared first season. on december 22, 1978, lawson played in first game in misl history kids lost new york arrows @ nassau coliseum. kids folded @ end of season, , lawson moved philadelphia fever. in 1982, lawson signed new york arrows. arrows had dominated league since inception, on downward slide. lawson played 2 seasons them before folded in 1984. moved new york cosmos played final nasl season. when nasl folded in 1984, cosmos jumped misl 1984-1985 season. however, folded during season. lawson signed free agent dallas sidekicks on october 1, 1985. lawson became 1 of 5 players have jersey number retired dallas, having played sidekicks 6 seasons. integral part of 1986-87 misl championship team. when retired in 1991, last active original member of misl.
in addition long indoor career, lawson spent several seasons in north american soccer league. following first misl season, lawson moved west sign san jose earthquakes 1979 nasl season. traded san diego sockers , played 1980 nasl outdoor season them. did not play outdoors again until 1984 when signed new york cosmos last year of nasl.
he retired after 1990-91 season , went private business in dallas. in 1992, briefly played dallas rockets in usisl.
