there 6 elementary, 3 middle , 3 high schools in city, operated independent school district 196. in addition 2 comprehensive high schools, apple valley home magnet school open 11th , 12th graders, school of environmental studies. in fall 2007, independent school district 196 opened 3 elementary-level magnet schools: cedar park elementary, become science, technology, engineering , math (stem) magnet; diamond path elementary, have international studies theme, , glacier hills elementary, arts , science theme. students attend public schools in other school districts chosen families under minnesota s open enrollment statute.
