goryeo dynasty

the fall of unified silla dynasty , establishment of goryeo dynasty in 918 indicates new period of korean buddhist art. goryeo kings lavishly sponsored buddhism , buddhist art flourished, buddhist paintings , illuminated sutras written in gold , silver ink. [1]. crowning achievement of period carving of approximately 80,000 woodblocks of tripitaka koreana done twice.


joseon dynasty

the joseon dynasty actively suppressed buddhism beginning in 1406 , buddhist temples , art production subsequently decline in quality in quantity although beginning in 1549, buddhist art continue produced. [2].
