the society established in 1910 @ stephens college, missouri two-year women s college, under name of kappa phi omicron. society grew and, in 1918, became known phi theta kappa , organized nationally. in 1924, amendment society s constitution passed include two-year colleges, regardless of single-sex or coeducational status. in 1929, phi theta kappa officially recognized american association of junior colleges , became official honor society of two-year institutions. has been regarded honorable organization promotes service-oriented member in community , @ large. s considered largest honors society in world.
